America's untapped resource (without music)…60 sec produced by Jim Nicholson

Script: People with severe developmental disabilities are a great untapped resource in this country. These are people who can work, people who want jobs and people who benefit greatly by being given the opportunity to shine. On the job, they reward their employers with dependability and diligence -- qualities that are hard to find in today's workforce.

Work is essential because it gives people with mental retardation, autism and other severe disabilities a sense of worth and dignity. Every person has the right to work because without work, people don't have a sense of purpose in life. As a result, they slowly die inside.

To help a person with a disability lasts a day, to help them to help themselves, lasts a lifetime.

Imagine what it would be like (with music) …60 sec produced by LA Studio Productions

Script: Imagine what it would be like, if from the time you were born you were told that you would never be able to do anything meaningful or productive or if because you were different, for your entire life you were isolated and segregated away from normal life.

This is the grim reality for millions of people with mental retardation, autism and other severe developmental disabilities across America. Everyone deserves the opportunity to show the world their abilities and talents in the workplace. Work is essential because it gives people with disabilities a sense of worth, dignity, and independence.

To help a person with a disability lasts a day, to help them to help themselves lasts a lifetime.

John's Story (without music) …60 sec produced by Jim Nicholson

Script: John gets up everyday at 5:00am to get ready for work. He eats his breakfast, enjoys a cup of coffee, takes a shower and quickly gets dressed. John loves his job. He always has. It makes him feel good about himself. He takes great pride in the work he does and says his co-workers are like family, even though they get on his nerves from time to time.

John is a person with Downs Syndrome. Growing up many people believed he would be in an institution for his entire life. Others felt sorry for him because they believed he could never earn a living or be independent. They were wrong.

There are millions of people across the America who desperately want to work, but are being denied that right because of stereotypes, discrimination and misguided beliefs about people with developmental disabilities.

The opportunity to shine (with music)… produced by 30 sec Bob Greene Productions

Script: 70% of people with severe disabilities are unemployed in this country. That is 20.3 million people who are waiting for an opportunity to shine.

People with mental retardation, autism and other severe disabilities who are either in institutions or are in danger of institutionalization deserve the chance to engage in meaningful paid work opportunities.

These opportunities have caused profound developmental changes. Some of these people speak for the first time. Others have stopped self-abusive behaviors merely because of the dignity garnered from work.

To help a person with a disability lasts a day, to help them to help themselves lasts a lifetime.
